Evaluation of Decarbonization Technologies for ASEAN Countries via an Integrated Assessment Tool

A new assessment tool for evaluating decarbonization technologies that considers each technology’s sustainability, security, affordability, readiness, and impact a specific country is proposed. This applied to set of the power, transport, industry sectors ten Southeast Asian countries constitute ASEAN. results in list most promising technologies, as well remaining issues need more research development. study reveals several common themes ASEAN’s decarbonization. First, carbon capture storage (CCS) key technology large-scale CO2 emission. Second, rely heavily on coal power generation, switching gas can halve their emission sector should be given high priority. Third, hydropower bioenergy both have potential majority ASEAN if sustainability resolved satisfactorily. Fourth, replacing conventional vehicles by electric overarching theme road transport sector, but will result increased demand electricity. In medium long term, use hydrogen marine fuel biofuels aviation are preferred solutions sectors. Fifth, installing CCS industrial plants priority, fossil fuels blue high-temperature heating long-term solution.
